ScanPyramids Discovers the 'Big Void'

Above Grand Gallery, Great Pyramid (29.9792°N, 31.1342°E)

Detailed Account

Using cosmic-ray muon tomography, the ScanPyramids project discovers a previously unknown large cavity above the Grand Gallery — at least 30 meters long, the largest internal structure found in the Great Pyramid since the 19th century. The void's purpose is unknown. Its position — directly above the Grand Gallery's acoustic resonance chamber — is consistent with theories proposing the pyramid had functional internal systems. The void has never been physically accessed.
